Sinharaja Rainforest
The Sinharaja Rainforest is Sri Lanka’s largest remaining tropical lowland rainforest and one of the island’s greatest natural treasures. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, it is famous for its exceptional biodiversity and is home to countless plant and animal species found nowhere else on Earth. More than 60% of its trees are endemic, and the forest shelters over half of Sri Lanka’s endemic mammals and butterflies, along with many rare birds, reptiles, amphibians, and insects.
